Spokane Arena History. The Spokane Arena opened in 1995 and replaced the Spokane Coliseum. It is home to the Spokane Chiefs Ice Hockey and the Spokane Shock Arena football, and also serves as a secondary home for the basketball program of Gonzaga University until recently. Now Gonzaga basketball team hosts their annual game with local rival Eastern Washington University.
